ACADEMIC STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

I am Sarah Jenkins, currently a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry student at Horizon State University. I am in my third year into my undergraduate course and as early as now, I would like to express my intent to apply for graduate study in Environmental Science at the University of Oceania. As an environmental advocate, I want to expand my knowledge and contribute my devotion and expertise as a future environmental scientist.

The Environmental Science program interests me because I understand the importance the course has in protecting and restoring our planet's ecosystems. The escalating climate crisis is slowly disrupting global biodiversity, one biome at a time, and without proactive intervention, nature's balance is tipped and life as we know it is in peril. Nothing has ever motivated me to take part in the movement for a more sustainable environment than the dire situation across our globe.

As an advocate, I have been following other environmental experts on social media and I discovered the reputation of the University of Oceania in the field of Ecosystem Dynamics. Most of the personalities I followed were coincidentally graduate students from the University, and they have inspired me to take up the same path. In my research, I found out that the Environmental Science program in the University offered a wide range of learning opportunities for its students such as field research and sustainable policy making. The school's Department of Ecology also has an interdisciplinary program which I find most appealing since I love connecting the lessons I have learned and realizing their relevance to one another.

For three consecutive years in my undergraduate course, I have consistently landed a grade point average above 3.5. My science subjects such as Mathematics, Biology and Physics have consistently had a combined average of 3.8. Aside from this, I have been a member of the Eco Youth Coalition in my university and I am currently the organization's chairperson. The club holds regular seminars and groups that explore new research on environmental policies and conservation.
